December News!

Greetings!

It’s R.I.F. Week in the library, December 12th - 16th.  R.I.F. stands for Reading Is Fundamental. It’s a Federal program that puts brand new books into the hands of students in Title 1 schools. Every student who comes to library next week will get to choose a book to keep forever. Please note that during RIF Week, there is no library book check-out. All library books are due the day BEFORE their scheduled library day.

Also happening this month is the Books for Bicycles is a reading contest! books for Bicycles is a reading incentive open to all second through fifth grade students here at Grout. Odd Fellows Grand Lodge has donated two brand new bicycles and two new bicycle helmets to our school. Students must read a book and then complete a book report form in order to enter and have a chance to win one of the bicycles. Book reports MUST be signed by a parent! Students may turn in no more than one book report per day through December 13th.The bicycles and helmets will be raffled off at our school assembly on December 14th, 2016. Book report forms are located just inside the library. Rules and information are stated on the back of the report form. Good luck to all participants!!

November Library News

November Library News from Mrs. Hamilton and Ms. LeBlanc

THE SCHOLASTIC BOOKFAIR IS COMING ON NOV. 8-10 in the auditorium !!!!!!! On Nov. 8 the Book Fair hours are 2:15-6:00pm. On Nov. 9 the Book Fair hours are 8:00-7:00pm, and on Nov. 10 the Book Fair hours are 8:00-3:00pm. Please come and see all the wonderful books, posters, pencils, etc., that are offered for sale. The Grout Library gets a percentage of the sales from the Book Fair, and then Mrs. Hamilton and Ms. LeBlanc purchase many, many  books for the library.

The fourth grade is currently being given lessons in the library about the Dewey Decimal System. Their knowledge of the System will enable them to find any nonfiction book easily in any library.
The fifth grade will begin to study the different literary genres with the ultimate goal of their being able to identify five different genres.

Last month the students enjoyed hearing stories about Halloween, and this month some classes heard stories about Day of the Dead.
We really appreciate the volunteers who have been coming into the library to shelve books and to cover  them with laminate.
The teachers have been enjoying the use of the new laminator in the library.

Mrs. Hamilton and Ms. LeBlanc will be selling Partylite candles at the Grout Bazaar on November 19. All of our proceeds will benefit the library. Last day to place your order is November 30th!
